If you live in UK or US, you will no doubt be aware:
- Donald Trump has ambitions to be president
- the UK is thinking of leaving the European Union (Brexit is the government buzz word for that move)
“…but I’m not interested in politics…” I hear people cry, and I’m not going to bore you with why all this matters, I am far from understanding it all. I just want to encourage you to read about it, make yourself aware of the world and who has the power.
If you travel, read about the place you will be visiting, don’t just look at the pretty pictures in the guide books, read all the wordy pages about culture and history. Lonely Planet have some great offers on at the moment, maybe worth a look if you are planning anything in the next year or so.
Please visit your government or visa sites for the country of your choice, they give you lots of advice on issues that affect your destination. You should ALWAYS do this, your travel insurance may be affected if you don’t. You DO have travel insurance don’t you, if not maybe you should start looking here on Columbus Direct for a quote at least!
More importantly when you arrive at your destination, SPEAK TO PEOPLE! Please try to get out of your hotel, speak with locals, learn a language, communicate and spend money in markets etc.
People power is strong, use yours…and if you are reading this in a country where you can vote, then do it.
