Book Review – Get to know the iconic Smart Passive Income guru – Let Go, Pat Flynn

I’ve also been ‘let go’ and it’s hard to bounce back but Pat gives you the tools, and motivation to do it.

Book Review – Business for Authors: How to be an Author Entrepreneur, Joanna Penn

I knew I wanted a different career, I frequently said to myself ‘There must be more than this.’

Book Review of the Invaluable Non-Fiction – The Art of Social Media, Guy Kawasaki and Peg Fitzpatrick

There’s a brilliant helpful ‘schedule’ of what to do when you ‘Peg’ a blog post – invaluable!

Love Lies Clones Book Cover

A Page Turner Thriller! No Spoiler Book Review – Love, Lies & Clones, Joynell Schultz

I had a vision of ‘Bones’ Temperance Brennan, you know the character created by Kathy Reichs. She’s not as ‘detached’ but certainly similar.

No Spoiler Book Review – Autobiography – The Motorcycle Diaries, Ernesto Che Guevara

You will learn so much about this iconic figure from 20th century history I don’t want to spoil it for you, but wow it’s worth the read.

Book Review of Non-Fiction / Autobiographical Book – On Writing, A Memoir of The Craft, Stephen King

We may not all end up with a back list as long as your arm, but if you want to write it’s a great place to get advice from someone who knows. He truly does have the t-shirt.

The English Patient, Michael Ondaatje

No Spoiler Book Review of the Beautiful, Curious, Booker Prize Winning – The English Patient, Michael Ondaatje

Before I watch any movie or TV adaptations I try to read the book. This frees me to immerse myself in the writer’s original work and, importantly, my own imagination.

Young Adult (YA) Fiction Book Review – Matched, Ally Condie

The young characters are not only learning about love and honesty, but also hidden agendas. They learn that not everything is as it seems, decisions are not always easy, in other words adulthood does not bring all the answers.

HIs Bloody Project Book Cover
24th November 201623rd December 2018Blog

Book Review of THE BRILLIANT – His Bloody Project, Graeme Macrae Burnet

A small town murder occurs, in true ‘TV detective Columbo’ style you know who did it, but you are still drawn into the tale. Brutal moments, hidden undercurrents and stubborn survival instincts all described simply and in deserved prize-winning ways.

Book Review – The Girl In The Spider’s Web, David Lagercrantz

Lisbeth has quite a few really good reasons to hate men and I believe Mr Larsson’s writing shows he was a true feminist

Book Review – The Hunger Games – Mockingjay, Suzanne Collins

If you wish to analyse it further rather than just see it as a piece of fiction you can see a political tone to the novel.

25th September 201628th May 2019Blog

Book Review – The Hunger Games, Suzanne Collins

By the way there is a new genre creeping onto the bookshelves ‘New Adult’ which is YA with sex, odd really surely a new adult is just an adult.

19th September 201628th May 2019Blog

Book Review – The Narrows, Michael Connelly

The stereotypical FBI agent was ineffective and egotistical which is disappointing but I guess usual for this type of novel.

30th August 201622nd December 2024Blog

Book Review – Guilty Wives, James Patterson & David Ellis

I wasn’t going to pick up this book, despite recommendations, as it looked a bit tacky and predictable with a beautiful woman in evening dress and handcuffs on the cover. However it was brilliant!

24th August 201628th May 2019Blog

Book Review – Wikileaks – Inside Julian Assange’s War On Secrecy, David Leigh and Luke Harding

The authors were ‘at the centre of a unique publishing drama that involved the release of some 250 000 secret diplomatic cables and classified files from the Afghan and Iraq wars’

17th August 201617th December 2019Blog

Book Review – Lasting Damage, Sophie Hannah

A classic storyline and mystery of a woman, is she going mad, is she already insane or, is it a set up.

5th August 201617th March 2019Blog

Book Review: No Time For Goodbye, Linwood Barclay

Very cleverly written, is she going mad or is someone trying to make it seem she is losing her grip? If so, who?

27th July 20164th February 2017Blog

Book Review – The Son, Jo Nesbo

I read this in just over a day, it really grabs you and over you through the plot. I guess I’d describe it as ‘Gritty Scandinavian’.

20th July 201628th September 2020Blog

Book review – A Boy of Good Breeding – Miriam Toews

Well, the blurb just about covers it, it’s a quirky tale of small town life with all its glorious triviality and complication.

20th July 201628th September 2020Blog

Book Review – Robert Graves – Goodbye to All that

This definitely appears high up in my long list of book recommendations. War is sadly a necessity and I do think this book is worth a read to know how brutal it can be on the individual.
