The Challenge of Being A Squirrel

You may be focussed and never get distracted.

I’m not. Sometimes. Mostly.

As a multi passionate creative I’m often torn between writing, plotting, editing, not to mention painting, knitting, gardening, blogging, podcasting you get the idea.

That’s not even mentioning the getting dressed, instead of sitting in yoga pants, thick socks and hoodies, to video for my You Tube channel.

I’m meant to spend 80% of my time on marketing.

I don’t like marketing. It’s a necessary part of the job, some say THE most important, but I enjoy the creative side way better.

This week I’ve achieved a fair bit, and need to embrace the marketing side as my latest children’s book is on the market.

Editing

The search for an editor, the major investment when writing, for my current thriller is ongoing too. It’s a very personal, tough decision. I want to get it right. Allowing someone to read and critique my work is allowing vulnerabilities to emerge.

Anxiety

I’m also waking in the middle of the night with ideas for my ongoing post apoc novel, as well as managing anxiety we all feel about the global viral crisis.

Writing isn’t hard, it’s a privilege. It’s not brain surgery, or nursing in a Covid packed ward. I know I’m so, so, so lucky to do what I do.

Did I mention I’m a coach too? So I help others focus on managing their pivots and creativity, what an honour!

Each year I challenge myself to break through three barriers.

The virus, the raising of BLM campaigns, the global politics, challenges thrown at all of us have felt like it’s a never ending barrage of barriers this year but in case you need to hear it, we will be OK.

We will be OK.

My tiny corner of creativity is a haven and I treasure it.

The characters jump from my page to sit alongside me as their story emerges.

If you want to pursue your passion, let’s talk.

Create a life you don’t want to escape from.

Nourish your creativity.

Share your energy and message.

Life as a squirrel can be a challenge but I love every moment.

What a wonderful way to spend the day, in yoga pants and a hoody!
